Group 99 is Looking for Helpers
GROUP 99 IS LOOKING FOR HELPERS
HCPT relies on thousands of volunteer helpers to provide care for the special children they take to Lourdes each year.
These helpers come from all walks of life, all ages and a variety of previous experience. Previous experience of looking after a child with needs is not necessary, although it does help if you have some experience of looking after children in some capacity, but this may just be having younger brothers and sisters, babysitting, or maybe you are a parent yourself, but you are not alone in all of this!
There is a whole team of helpers, including doctors, nurses, and others from a wide variety of disciplines on hand 24/7. The most important characteristic of a helper is the willingness to do whatever is needed and the ability to work as part of a group to give excellent care to the child in your care to ensure they have a fantastic time!
Each helper will be responsible for the day to day care of one child for the week. Depending on the needs of the child, there may also be one or two other helpers assigned to your child, but there are also several people in the team who do not have a child of their own and so are able to help out with any of the children if more people are needed or if their regular helper is unwell.
You will be responsible for making sure your child is up, washed and dressed in the morning, that they eat and drink during the day, that they are helped with any personal needs, and most of all, that they have lots of fun! We also have lots of junior helpers who travel out separately and are on hand to provide entertainment and friendship to the children during the day.
There will be lots of time before we travel to meet and get to know your child, and get used to their routines.
We also all meet up regularly as a group before we go so that the children can meet each other and we can start to bond as a group.Helpers are also required to actively participate with the fundraising and promote group activity, and this involves a variety of events which are usually great fun as a well as a bit of work!
Helpers are expected to fund their own fare for the trip.
All helpers will be CRB checked.
