"Miracles and Saints are good for the Catholic Church."
Lourdes in France has changed the strict rules on miracles, after recognising only 67 in 149 years. There is now a new sub-miracle category which makes it easier to recognise miracle cures which have taken place in Lourdes.
The Vatican has already changed the rules on Saints. John Paul II reduced the number of miracles required for sainthood from 4 to 2. This has resulted in the 'Saint Factory' producing 500 Saints in the last 20 years. It is the busiest office in the Vatican.
This film follows the pilgrimage of new Catholics Ken and Susan Higgins who are both suffering from terrible illnesses. They travel to Lourdes in search of a miracle cure despite their loveable priest Father David who tries to persuade them not to expect one.
The film also follows Phil McCord, whose blindness was cured by a miracle after praying to Mother Theodore Guerin, the founder of the convent where he works. He travels to Rome to meet the Pope and take part in the canonisation ceremony of Mother Theodore.
This colourful, funny and touching film is a collaborative effort by first time producer Rachel Wright and veteran film-maker Jane Sayers.
